Parishes & churches

The parishes and their churches

Five parishes in eight villages; nine buildings, all but one being medieval; one church (Lenwade) is now closed, and a further two are technically redundant (Morton-on-the-Hill and Little Witchingham), but still used occasionally and well-loved.

The parishes have gradually joined together to make up the Wensum benefice as it exists today, the most recent recruit being Ringland, which was brought into the benefice in May 2005 at the same time as the appointment of Revd Selwyn Tillett as priest-in-charge. He was formally appointed Rector in July 2005.

The villages presently have two regular publications: the Wensum Diary (Weston, Morton, Lenwade and the Witchinghams) and the Pilgrim (Alderford, Attlebridge, Swannington and Ringland). If you would like to receive copies of either of these publications, please contact us.

Most of our churches have been included on Simon Knott's excellent website. He includes many photographs of the interiors, and a great deal of detail - saving me writing it all up! The links to Simon's reports are given under each separate church by following the links below, together with other information about each village and its church.

First, use the map below to view the whole benefice, and to locate the church you are interested in (hover your mouse over a marker to see the name of the village)...

and then click on the links in the toolbar above, or on the parish names in the list below, to see details of each village and its place of worship.
