Children

Our local school

Our benefice includes Great Witchingham Primary School, where Selwyn is a school governor. Assemblies are regularly taken by Selwyn and by a former churchwarden of one of our parishes.

Due to the support of several parents the benefice has an After School Club for young people, which began in April 2008. It takes place on the first and third Tuesday of each month during term time. It takes place from 3.30pm to 5pm in a classroom at Great Witchingham school. It is a time of fun and learning organised around a Christian theme. For further information please contact Selwyn.

Services for children

As anybody living in the area will know, the population of our more rural areas sadly does not include a large number of children! However, some of the services in the benefice are designed specifically for our young families. These include:

  • Ringland: 10:00 am on the second Sunday of each month: All Age Worship
  • Swannington: 10:00 am on the third Sunday of each month: Children's Service

In addition, there are special services held for children during particular seasons, such as Christmas. Watch this website for details.

Baptism anniversaries

We regularly invite families to return to our churches to celebrate anniversaries of baptism. During whichever is the appropriate Sunday morning service, we ask the family to join the priest at the font; the whole congregation renew their baptismal promises together, and we re-light the baptismal candles that the children have (hopefully) brought with them. In this way, children have the opportunity to understand a little about what happened when they were baptised as babies, and the families are encouraged to stay in touch with the people and what goes on in church.
